About my Painting and Art
Insight:
For me, art involves patience, the care of beauty, geometry, harmony. It is not just about recreating a reality, but also about being affected internally. Art is not about creating an impact or drawing attention; these are modern concepts that, for me, make no sense.
Art should be a tool for cultivating the spirit of both the artist and the viewer. I try, through the point, to find the rhythm of things, in a process that, through repetition, gives a pause to my breathing—an inhaling and exhaling, immersing myself in stillness, and reassuring the mind that all its frantic fantasies can quiet down, allowing a connection with the very origin of the universe, which unfolds in millions of particles to form the cosmos, the order.
In my painting, I have developed two basic series that, in turn, contain other series within them, like tentacles developing a worldview of their own, based on my experience as a human being and as an artist. I use painting and drawing as a tool for meditation, a medium that allows me to connect with my own inner world, in search of beauty and harmony in a world that seeks the opposite. For me, art has a sacred meaning, if you will, connecting me with the universe and my understanding of it.
The two basic series I have conceptualized to describe my own worldview through words are based on Platonic concepts, which I develop as the very process of the creation of the Universe. These are the concepts of Natura Naturata and Natura Naturans—one precedes the other, and the other is nourished by the word itself when things can be named, such as a forest, a tree, the sea, the mountain, all elements of nature itself.
Natura Naturans is an expansion of consciousness in states still abstract and not yet able to be named as they manifest in a primary state of creation. Natura Naturata follows Natura Naturans, and both draw on the energy of the Universe itself, symbolized by the point, which is the element I use to represent energy.
The imaginary constructions I create from my own vision of the Universe, as an analogy with Neoplatonism, refer to the One as a whole. These constructions constitute unique spheres in permanent vibratory processes, which are a kind of particles of the Universe. They are no longer microcosmic representations of themselves but confront the multiple from the unique, showing the repetition of the self to infinity, recreating a universe that goes beyond the One and encompasses the whole.
The points define the singularity of space, compose it, construct it, inviting us to perceive the light filtered in microparticles, forming atmospheres that speak of an invisible world, a vibratory space that unites us, showing nature itself full of its light and matter.
The Metaphysical Constructions series is a tentacle of the Natura Naturata series, born in the stillness of my observation of the world of architecture and the built space where we inhabit. This series, based on these constructs where the straight line defines the space itself, uses the point in the same way as a support for the atoms that make up the material world, thus going beyond physics, connecting us with that sublime world that supports everything.
The Movements series belongs to the Natura Naturans series. It was born at a time in my life when many changes were happening on both a terrestrial and a consciousness level—a time when I couldn’t paint because I had to work in other areas of life. My immigrant situation forced me to pause in the studio, and this series was born from thoughts while washing dishes in a restaurant where I worked in London. That’s when I began to develop and materialize this entire series that I hadn’t been able to bring to life.
This series represented something different for me from what I usually do in the studio. I always let myself be carried away by painting, and that’s when things emerge that I later develop. In this case, the work was born in my imagination, and transferring everything I saw in my mind to paper or canvas was difficult. In fact, I believe I haven’t achieved what was truly produced in it. However, it carries clear reminiscences of the process that was happening inside me due to all the movements in the outside world.
